For most golfers, one hour is the right amount of time. It's long enough to diagnose, explain, and practice a change. It's short enough that your brain and body don't hit overload. The real question isn't whether one hour is enough. It's what happens in the days between your hours.

## What fits into a well-run hour

At Beyond Golf Performance, a typical hour looks like this:

1. **Warm-up and baseline (10 minutes).** You hit a few shots so we can see where you are today. We capture data on TrackMan and video your swing.
2. **Diagnosis (10 minutes).** We look at your impact position first. Where did the club bottom out? Was the face open or closed to the path? Everything starts from impact.
3. **One key change (25 minutes).** We introduce one fix with drills, feels, and feedback. Not five fixes. One.
4. **Test and transfer (10 minutes).** We take the change from drills to full shots, then to a target, like you'd face on the course.
5. **Practice plan (5 minutes).** You leave with exactly what to work on before we see you next.

## Why more time isn't always better

Motor learning research is consistent on this point: people learn movement better in focused blocks with rest in between. After about an hour of deliberate change, most students start to tire. Their swings get sloppy, and they begin grooving the wrong pattern. A two-hour private lesson often has a great first hour and a frustrating second one.

## When longer sessions make sense

There are exceptions:

- **On-course sessions.** Playing several holes with your coach takes more time, and it's where you learn decision-making and routine.
- **Initial assessments.** A full TPI screen plus a swing evaluation can benefit from extra time.
- **Advanced players** working on several parts of the game in one visit.

## When 30 minutes works

Short sessions are great for check-ins once you're in a program, putting tune-ups, or juniors with shorter attention spans. They're less ideal for a first lesson or a big swing change.

## The hour between the hours

What separates golfers who improve from those who don't is what they do after the lesson. A one-hour lesson followed by three focused 30-minute practice sessions beats a two-hour lesson followed by nothing. That's why every BGP student leaves with a practice plan, and why our programs come in five-session phases rather than one-off hours.
