Why Technique Alone Isn't Enough
I see it all the time: a junior golfer with a beautiful swing on the range who falls apart on the course. The parents are confused — "They hit it so well in practice, what happened?" The answer is almost always the same: we built a great swing, but we forgot to build the player.
At BGP, everything we do is built around three pillars — Mind, Body, and Technique. We call them the Three Pillars of Peak Performance, and they apply to junior golfers just as much as they apply to adults. Maybe more.
Pillar One: The Mind
Most people think mental game coaching is for elite players. I disagree. The earlier a child learns how to manage emotions, build focus, and develop resilience, the better they'll perform — not just in golf, but in everything.
What We Teach
Pillar Two: The Body (TPI)
Here's a reality that surprises most parents: your child's swing limitations are often physical, not technical. A junior who can't rotate their hips isn't going to develop a powerful turn, no matter how many swing drills they do.
That's why we use TPI — the Titleist Performance Institute methodology — as the foundation for our junior physical development. We screen for rotational mobility, balance, hip mobility, upper body flexibility, and core strength. From there, we build a custom exercise program targeting their specific limitations.
Growing bodies need special attention. Our TPI programming for juniors focuses on mobility, stability, and movement quality — not heavy lifting or adult fitness protocols.
Pillar Three: Technique
With the mind and body foundations in place, now we build technique that's sustainable and age-appropriate.
Ages 6-9: Grip, posture, alignment, contact — the fundamentals.
Ages 10-14: Swing plane, sequencing, short game variety, course management.
Ages 14+: Launch monitor data, video analysis, shot shaping, scoring zone optimization.
The Three Pillars Work Together
A physically fit junior can make technical changes faster. A mentally strong junior can execute under pressure. And a technically sound junior has more confidence because they know their body supports their swing.
The Development Timeline
Every junior develops at their own pace. We don't rush it. The goal is to build a golfer who loves the game at 25, not one who burns out at 15.
Book a junior initial assessment and we'll evaluate your child across all three pillars.
