Golf has dozens of named instruction methods. One-plane, two-plane, Stack and Tilt, The Golfing Machine, and many more. Each has passionate believers. So which one is best? Our honest answer: the best method is the one that fits your body and gets the ball in the hole. There is no single right way to swing.
Why one-size-fits-all fails
Look at the best players in the world. Their swings look wildly different. Some swing long and flowing, others short and compact. Some have flat planes, others steep. What they share isn't a look. It's what happens at impact.
Teaching every golfer the same model ignores a basic fact: bodies are different. A flexible 22-year-old and a 60-year-old with a stiff back can't and shouldn't swing the same way.
What all good swings have in common
At Beyond Golf Performance, we teach from impact. We believe every effective swing gets three things right:
- Low point control. The club bottoms out in the right spot, after the ball with irons. This is the foundation of solid contact.
- Club path and face relationship. The face angle relative to the path determines curve. Control that, and you control your ball flight.
- Lag for power. Storing and releasing energy efficiently creates speed without extra effort.
How you achieve those three things can vary a lot from golfer to golfer.
The body comes first
We assess every student with a TPI screen. We look at setup angles first, then balance, then how your body moves or doesn't. If your hips don't rotate well, we won't force a big hip turn. We'll build a swing that works within your limits while we help you improve them.
Ground up
Our coaching also emphasizes ground reaction forces. Great swings use the ground to sequence the body from the lower half up. That's where effortless power comes from.
We borrow from the best
Rather than following one system, our coaching draws on the best ideas in the game, including The Golfing Machine, Chuck Cook, Butch Harmon's work with Tiger Woods, George Gankas, and Chris Como. Each offers tools. We use the right tool for each golfer.
Data keeps it honest
Methods are opinions until they're measured. We use TrackMan and HackMotion to verify that changes actually improve your impact and ball flight.
Find the method that fits you
Your best method is personal. We'll help you find it. We coach golfers from Austin, Cedar Park, Leander, and Georgetown at Balcones Golf Academy.
